Subscribe to Latte from another app

Subscribing to a calendar link brings your school's timetable into Latte. This is the other direction: a private link that lets Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook or your phone's calendar read what is in Latte.

It is useful when something else owns your day — a work calendar, a shared family calendar, or a voice assistant that reads your schedule out loud.

Web only

The link is created on the web. Once a calendar app follows it, that app shows your Latte items on every device it runs on, phones included — there is nothing to set up in the Latte mobile app.

  1. Open Calendar.

  2. Click Subscribe from another app in the controls at the top of the page. The dialog explains what it does: "Paste this link into Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook and your Latte events and deadlines will appear there, kept up to date."

  3. Your feed link is in the read-only field. Click Copy link beside it — Latte confirms with Link copied.

  4. Paste it into the other app, following one of the recipes below.

The link is created the first time you open this dialog, and it stays the same afterwards — so you can come back for it whenever you need it again.

Everything dated that Latte holds for you, with no date limit — past and future alike:

  • Events on your own calendars, including your school schedule calendar.
  • Events on the calendars of every group you belong to.
  • Events other people shared into your calendars.
  • Your task deadlines. A task with a due date appears in the feed, so the other app shows it next to your lectures.

A few things are worth knowing:

  • It is read-only in both directions. The other app cannot change anything in Latte, and editing an item there does not reach Latte.
  • How often it refreshes is the other app's decision, not yours. Calendar apps typically re-read a subscribed link every few hours and some are slower; a change you make in Latte can take a while to appear. Latte allows a subscribed app a small number of reads every few minutes, which is far more than any of them need.
  • It is not a backup. To take your data out properly, use the export on your profile — see Privacy & legal.

Add it to another app​

Apple Calendar (Mac) — File → New Calendar Subscription…, paste the link, Subscribe, then pick how often it should refresh.

Apple Calendar (iPhone or iPad) — Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar, paste the link, Next, then Save.

Google Calendar — on the web, beside Other calendars choose + → From URL, paste the link and Add calendar. It can take Google several hours to show the events the first time, and Google refreshes subscribed links on its own slow schedule.

Outlook — on the web, Add calendar → Subscribe from web, paste the link, give it a name and Import.

Anything else — any app with "subscribe to calendar", "add by URL" or "internet calendar" takes the same link.

tip

Give the subscribed calendar a name you will recognise, like "Latte". Some apps default to a name taken from the link itself, which is not readable.

The link is the key. Anyone who has it can read everything listed above without signing in to anything — that is what makes it work in apps that cannot sign in to Latte. So treat it the way you treat a password:

  • Don't post it in a group chat, a shared document, or an issue tracker.
  • Don't paste it into a public website that "previews" calendars.
  • Prefer adding it yourself on each device over sending it to yourself in a message.

If it leaks, replace it​

The dialog has a Create a new link action. It gives you a brand-new link and switches the old one off immediately.

  1. Open Subscribe from another app on Calendar.
  2. Click Create a new link. Latte asks first: "Anywhere you have pasted the old link will stop updating. Create a new one?"
  3. Confirm. Latte says New link created and shows the new one.
  4. Re-add the new link everywhere you were using the old one. Every app still following the old link stops receiving anything — it does not fail loudly, it just stops updating.

Replace the link if you pasted it somewhere public, if a shared device has it saved, or whenever you are simply not sure who has it. There is no limit on how often you can do it.

If the dialog says We could not load your feed link, only the link is unavailable — "Your calendar itself is unaffected." Close it and try again.
