Garçon, the study assistant

Garçon's chat is switched off. There is no Garçon entry in the navigation on either the web or the phone, and the assistant screen shows nothing. If you used it before, or you have seen it mentioned somewhere, this page explains where it went.

It is here so the guide doesn't stay silent about a feature people remember. When the replacement is switched on, this page will describe it properly.

Where the entry used to be​

Garçon appeared as a row in the conversation list alongside your group chats, and had its own Study Assistant screen. Neither renders now. A bookmark to that address opens an empty page.

Why it was switched off​

A chat box that answers questions about your studies is easy to build and hard to keep honest. Asked for an answer, it gives one — and for coursework, being handed an answer is rarely what helps, and is often not allowed.

So rather than leave a chat that quietly does the work for you, the assistant is being rebuilt as something much narrower.

What it is becoming​

Help that appears on a task, at the moment you are stuck — not a separate place you go to ask things.

When a task on Today has you stalled, you say so, and Latte offers a way in: a first step, a question to ask yourself, the thing to go and look up. Hints and questions, not answers. It is built from your own material — your notes, your courses, your calendar — and, like everything an AI writes in Latte, it carries the AI-generated label. See Text an AI wrote.

This is not switched on yet either. It stays off until we can show that it genuinely withholds answers rather than dressing them up as hints, which is the hard part. There is no date to promise and no waiting list to join.
